Soundtrack 2013: Event Cancelled

16/09/2013

We are saddened to announce that the Soundtrack International Film & Music Festival will not take place in 2013, as a result of the Film Agency for Wales’ decision to withdraw its core funding of the event, which it has funded since its inception in 2008.

We’re extremely proud of what Soundtrack has achieved over four editions, which included hosting Oscar winners in director Danny Boyle, composer Gabriel Yared and producer Iain Canning; Grammy and World Soundtrack Award winning composer David Holmes, legendary musician and composer John Cale, DJ & composer David Holmes, Grammy winning filmmaker Don Letts, director Julien Temple, Golden Globe and Emmy nominated actor Jonathan Pryce, actor, comedian and writer Adam Buxton, Mercury nominated act Guillemots, The BBC National Orchestra for Wales, music video pioneer Vincent Moon and many others.

An integral part of the festival programme over the years has been the performance element, and we’re proud to have hosted many first and one off performances, such as the full live premiere of John Cale’s ‘Paris 1919’; our one off commissioned performance of the scores of the late Anthony Minghella’s films, by Gabriel Yared and the BBC National Orchestra of Wales; the last Super Fury Animals performance to date; our commission of Guillemots live score of ‘Faust’ and our partnership with the BFI in staging Fake Blood’s live score of ‘Suspiria’.

Soundtrack also brought Adam Buxton’s acclaimed show ‘BUG: The Evolution of Music Video’ to Cardiff for the first time, became second festival to show Danny Boyle’s ‘Slumdog Millionaire’ and staged the premiere Gruff Rhys’ debut ‘Seperado!’.

Soundtrack also presented events in collaboration with a number of partner organisations such as the BFI, BAFTA & BAFTA Cymru, Musicians Union, British Council, The National Screen & Sound Archive of Wales, Sony, Media Antennae, Welsh Music Foundation, Chapter Arts Centre, Wales Millennium Centre, Newport City Council, University of South Wales, The Royal Welsh College of Music & Drama, London Short Film Festival, Swn Festival, Skillset Media Academy Wales, The School of Sound, Warp Films, RCT Cultural Services, Filmclub, UNISON, Zoom, Cineworld, the BBFC, Darkened Rooms, S4C, Spillers Records, Cinovate, Capital Law, Peaceful Fish, Sponsume, Media Education Wales and Reel Education. We’d like to offer out thanks to each organisation for their help and input in producing Soundtrack International Film & Music Festival since 2008.

We’d like to thank our funders and partners at the Film Agency for Wales, Arts Council of Wales, Welsh Government, BFI, Cardiff Council, Newport City Council, Capital Region Tourism, Rhondda Cynon Taf CBC Cultural Services, Cineworld Cardiff, Chapter Arts Centre, Newport Film School, Gorilla and St David’s Hotel & Spa.

We’d also like to thank all of our festival guests, performers and our festival audiences for making the event what it was. Thanks for the great times.

The Soundtrack Festival Team.
