The Minds Eye: Gabriel Yared and The BBC National Orchestra for Wales in Tribute to Anthony Minghella
November 28th, 2008 - Wales Millenium Centre, Cardiff Bay
7.00 PM
Oscar winning composer performs at Wales' first international film and music festival, in tribute to the late Anthony Minghella
BBC NOW brings classic scenes from the Big Screen to life through a perfromance of selected works from Beethoven, Wagner and Mozart. What was Francis Ford Coppola's motivation for using Wagners 'Flight of the Valkyries' in Apocalypse Now? Or what was it about Beethove's Symphony number 9 that made Stanley Kubrick use it in Clockwork Orange?
The evening will also include an exclusive special guest perfromance by legendary composer Gabriel Yared .Establishing his reputation with directors Jean-Luc Godard and Jean-Jacques Annaud, and working with Robert Altman, a longstanding collaboration with British director Anthony Minghella earned Yared many of his critical accolades, including an Oscar, Golden Globe and Grammy for his soundtrack for The English Patient. His soundtrack for the directors' films The Talented Mr Ripley and Cold Mountain also secured Oscar nominations, with Cold Mountain winning Best Original Soundtrack at the 2004 World Soundtrack Awards. Gabriel will perform music from Betty Blue, Cold Mountain, The Talented Mr Ripley and The English Patient amongst others in a tribute to the late Oscar winning Director Anthony Minghella.
This is a rare and exclusive opportunity to catch one of the best film soundtrack composers performing his work live in his only performance in the UK this year, backed by The BBC National Orchestra for Wales and promises to be a memorable event, not to be missed.
Tickets for this event range from Tickets £10, £14, £18, £22 and are available by calling the Wales Millenium Centre Box Office on 08700 40 2000 or clicking here
