Soundtrack A Success!
We're pleased to announce that the first annual SOUNDTRACK: The International Film and Music Festival was a great success!
The opening day kicked off with standing room only at the Welsh Music Foundation's ‘How to Get Your Music in the Movies' seminar at the Norwegian Church. Further workshops and lectures from the likes of The Musicians Union and Skillset Screen Academy Wales were well attended in the afternoon and Danny Boyle produced a fantastic Master Class at Cineworld before introducing a special screening of his phenomenal new movie, Slumdog Millionaire.
All would agree that the highlights of day two at SOUNDTRACK was the Gabriel Yared Master Class at the Urdd Space, the David Holmes ‘In Conversation' with Owen Powell following the screening of the haunting ‘Hunger', and David's subsequent DJ set at The Point in Cardiff Bay.
Friday featured the Gala event of SOUNDTRACK, as Gabriel Yared and the BBC National Orchestra of Wales performed in tribute to Anthony Minghella at the Wales Millennium Centre in Cardiff Bay. Gabriel delivered a truly touching performance on a very emotional evening. Friday also saw an enjoyable ‘In Conversation' with Jonathan Pryce, the Welsh Premiere of rockabilly horror ‘Flick' and the (very messy) SOUNDTRACK Festival Party at The Point. Kudos to the Vinyl Vendettas for providing the tunes and to those who partied in to the wee hours!
Saturday night hosted a Welsh strand at Cineworld with screenings of ‘Sleep Furiously', ‘Abrahams Point' and closing film, the very touching ‘I Know You Know'.
The SOUNDTRACK Team would like to thank all of our guests, partners and more than anyone, you, for making the first year of the festival such a wonderful success. See you again in 2009!
