Band Potrait ShotSuper Furry Animals for Soundtrack International Film and Music Festival

Cardiff Psych-rockers Super Furry Animals will perform at this year's Soundtrack International Film and Music Festival, as part of a special series of events celebrating the 25th Anniversary of the iconic Creation Records label.

The band will perform tracks from their years on the iconic label at the newly reopened Cardiff Coal Exchange venue on the 20th of November, alongside Mark Gardner, frontman of fellow former Creation Records act Ride, and some other special guests, to be announced.

Earlier in the evening, also as part of Soundtrack, there will be another special Creation Records event held at Cardiff Cineworld. ‘Upside Down: A Creation Records Evening' will be an exclusive ‘In Conversation' event that will feature the unveiling of the trailer for the new Creation Records documentary ‘Upside Down',  as well as exclusive clips from the forthcoming film, due to be released in February 2010. This special launch event will be hosted by Director Danny O'Connor and Ride frontman Mark Gardner, who will discuss the movie and Creation's lasting impression on the modern musical landscape.

The Super Fury Animals concert, titled ‘Recreation', will be the very first in a string of concerts by former Creation Records artists that will take place around the UK in 2010, in conjunction with the launch of ‘Upside Down'.

Creation Records is widely considered as one of the most important British independent record labels.  Founded by Alan McGee in 1983, the label became a leading light in the mid-80's British indie movement, acting as an early home to the likes of The Jesus and The Mary Chain and Primal Scream. Creation also housed shoegaze legends My Bloody Valentine, who nearly bankrupted the label with their 2 year recording session of the ‘Loveless' LP in 1991. McGee stepped out of the independent trough in the second half of the 90's by selling Creation to SONY, before going on to sign a band that would become the imprint's biggest success, Oasis.

Such was Creation's standing amongst the youth of the United Kingdom, that the Labour Party head hunted Alan McGee to become an advocate of Labour's efforts to topple the Tory's at the '97 General Election.  McGee was also instrumental in the development of New Deal for Musicians.

Creation Records finally closed its doors in 1999 after 12 years of releasing records by some of the finest guitar bands of the 80's and 90's, such as My Bloody Valentine, Oasis, Primal Scream, The Jesus and The Mary Chain, Super Furry Animals, The Boo Radleys, Saint Etienne, Teenage Fanclub and Ride.
